“Intensely demented electronic funk from the Dutch Skweee king. ‘Club Tropicana’ oozes hypercolour juice from every pore…” says Boomkat. Bleep states: “Few artists have the cajones to attempt a bag as mixed as this; even fewer could pull it off. Well done Mr B.” Kidkanevil thinks it: “Sounds incredible!” Mark Yelavich from Frybread Radio says: “It is so damn good”. Hackman called it “Colourful stuff!” And we like to call it: Club Tropicana…and it’s out NOW – on vinyl and digital!
Rain, rain stay away…so, what’s the Weather Fremdcast for today?
Fremdkunst is currently finishing the third and last EP in the series ‘Zauberschwein im krankenhaus’, called ‘Like Zauberhulk’ and is probably going to be the most outrageous work by the Fremdkünstlers so far. On soundcloud you can preview the song, Lab & live, which is a mash-up of a rework and a live-version of the song ‘Nostos & Algos’. The live track was recorded in June 2010 and features DJ’s Mace, Optimus & Vindictiv, guitar player Shycop, Baba Sissoko on percussion & vocals and Eric Vloeimans on trumpet.
The man scratching ’Oewieeee!’ in the above recording, DJ Vindictiv, is about to release with Dutch Hip Hop group 0118 a brand new album: read more about it (in Dutch) on: http://3voor12.vpro.nl/artikelen/artikel/45274062.
Good news from East Asia: we’ve just been going back and forth talking contracts with Japanese producer Emufucka and he’ll release new music on Fremdtunes in 2012. For now, you can check out some of his (previous) work on Belgium’s City Wurl and ofcourse hisSoundcloud page.
Another free brand new Fremdkunst track featuring saxophone virtuoso Erwin Vann on a downtempo hyperspacebeat, produced by DJ Mace. This track preludes ‘Zauberhulk’ which is part of the series ‘Zauberschwein im krankenhaus’ by Fremdkunst. Enjoy and make sure you stay up-to-date and receive more extra’s via our mailinglist.
Today, it’s independence day, so we could tell you to ’stay independent’ and celebrate the indie- and diy-culture, but that’s something we’d like you to decide for yourself. Instead, we celebrate the release of ’Yield & continue’ by Dutch producer Saccage. This release (digital only!) is available on downloadstores like Boomkat, Digital Tunes, Juno & Addictech. Saccage produced two jazzed-up Hip Hop tracks for this debut. ‘Security of misfortune’ dips the listener’s brain in a wistful voyage, while ‘Let it go’ has MC Rude-D distributing some nice, direct vocals on a downtempo Hip Hop beat. Belgium’s finest 40 Winks (Project Mooncircle) remixed ‘Security of misfortune’ and turned it into an authentic tour the force. Coco Bryce (Myor/Fremdtunes) ft DJ Mace remixed ‘Monkey business’ in his perpetual effective way.
Saccage earlier released some great tracks. One of ‘m (together with USA mc Incense) ended up on Tropical Heat Volume 1 by Myor: get this record here. In 2007, Saccage released a limited split EP with Rude-D. There’s only a few copies left: order these here.
First, we’d like to tell you about the official debut by Glasgow ranger Soosh: his first release is out on Fuselab/Alpha Pup Records. Soosh sounds like melodic abstract syrup with a good mixture of hip-hop and intricate soul. Infatuated with complex textures, floating rhythms and all post-post Soosh invites us to break from all the swag and boom-boom wonk-dom. Original, colorful and a definite must-have. Of course, such a talented fellow had to be invited by us for a release, so be prepared for his forthcoming EP on Fremdtunes.
Finest Ego (Project Mooncircle) monthly treats their listeners to a fine mix, this month it’s a mix by Pavel Dovgal from the Ukraine. DJ Mace also uploaded a monthly mix including tracks by Arthur’s Landing, Mo & Grazz, Pierce Warnecke, Light Club, DJ Optimus, Blank Blue, Kinny, Kid Sundance, Harmonic 313, 1000names, Saccage (40winks Remix), Fremdkunst (Solo Moderna Remix) and Electric Wire Hustle. These last guy’s, from New Zealand, will perform at the De Melkweg (Amsterdam, NL) on July 15th alongside Ladi6 ft. Parks & Julien Dyne, Electric Wire Hustle, Benny Tones, Isaac Aesili and Pacific Riders to give you a taste of the future of electronic soul, funk and hip-hop. Electric Wire Hustle will also perform at Dour: the Belgium Festival has such a great line-up: do not miss!
We put together a mix for Wax Poetics (one of the greatest musicmagazines since the birth of Christ): reflecting Fremdtunes’ flavor with a soulful, funky, electronic, and beat-heavy trip. Go to Wax Poeticsfor some outstanding reading-material or take yourself directly to the mix on our soundcloud page
Superelectric and Mister Adam animated a part of the track ‘Pound for pound’ by DJ Optimus ft Prince Po. This song appears on our labelsampler ’Fremdtunes – the series 2′ (out on vinyl) and the forthcoming DJ Optimus debut ’Double Helix DNA’. Since Organized Konfusion’s ‘Fudge Pudge’ Prince Po has been one of our alltime favorite mc’s. If you want to know why, listen to: ‘releasing hypnotical gasses’, ‘bring it on’, ‘last of the greats’ and ofcourse ‘copy cats‘.
On June 20th, DJ Optimus will release his debut album ‘Double Helix DNA’ on Fremdtunes. Hip Hop beats rich with Jazz and Funk influences, Turntablism, Electronica and a whole squadron of guests, including Rasco, Prince Po, iET, MC Rise, Maylay Sparks, Mo & Grazz and El Da Sensei, are the main ingredients of this debut. Optimus (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) created a complex produced masterpiece, working with a whole variety of (vintage) equipment & instruments and chopping up half the world. So, there you have it: jazzy, funky, energetic, dreamy, straight forward and with the boombap right at its core.
Two earlier released songs, And only practice…and Pound for pound, can also be found on ‘Double Helix DNA’. Curious about these releases? Find out more on these releases here and here!
During the making of the ‘Used Future’ EP, DJ’s Mace & Optimus found out that some tracks didn’t belong on the album: some weren’t good enough, some weren’t produced right, some just didn’t ‘feel good’. So, this is one of ‘m (and you can download it for free!).
The track is called ‘Used Future by Januskopf (episode 1)’ and was created during a weekend of musical experimentation. Inspired by ‘The five obstructions’ by Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth. DJ’s Mace, Optimus and Vindictiv created a set of rules for each track they individually made that weekend. For this track, Mace had to use his own vocals (you can still hear the ‘Chris en Neels zijn…’ voice in the background), drums (MJ’s Beat it kick and snare) sampled on the Akai s2800 and a specific bassline. Later on, Optimus and Mace finished the song, throwing in some extra space sounds, synths, cuts, robot-vocals reciting Aldous Huxley‘s words etc. etc. A part of the title of this specific track became the title of the EP.
We keep steady tunin’…so to keep you updated on our current status, here’s another Weather Fremdcast. First of all we’d like to inform you once more that ‘Boesoek‘ by Coco Bryce will hit the streets on February 14th 2011. Online magazine scratchedvinyl.com already wrote a very nice review on this LP (vinyl & digital!). Another magazine that mentioned artists connected to Fremdtunes (Kelpe/Fremdkunst) is thefindmag.com which is printed too and can be captured right here. Also, hallo040.nl shed some light on the activities of Fremdtunes and DJ Mace did a mix for ‘m (see below) which features tracks by Sixtoo, Flying Lotus, Soosh (you really need to check this guy’s work on soundcloud), Kelpe, Coco Bryce, KRSUR, OptiMace, Arts the beatdoctor and others. The exclusive track by OptiMace will not (!!!) be featured on the 6-track EP ‘Used Future’, so make sure you download this mix!
Currently Klaas Verplancke and Mister Adam are rounding up their artwork for the ‘Used Future’ EP and Budy Mokoginta (Mokosound) just created the first masters…
As we told you before – we now have ‘Fremdtunes – the series 1′ out as digital download and you can download for free Esolar’s ‘Ocean Walker’. Nice to know: the pseudonym of Esolar is Saccage and he’s now working on his Saccage debut LP (with guest-appearances by DigHeads, Incense, Master Surreal, Rude-D, Shycop and others). So that’s the Weather Fremdcast for today. Thank you for enjoying our music and stay tuned on twitter.com/fremdtunes for all our realtime newsfacts.
